Disarticulation Tool

MaterialsFlint from Charles Darwin’s home worked into a Paleolithic-style hand axe
The hand axe was both the longest-used tool in human history and perhaps the first general-purpose device. Flint knapping of stone tools has been studied by archeologists to understand the cognitive capabilities of early humans and human ancestors by examining the “grammar” of tool production. In the exhibition, it was installed directly in the wall. I worked with an experimental archaeologist to produce the object.
