itoti: Home Mind Theater System // black gesso on canvas, plastic skeleton legs, speakers, acrylic paint, speaker wire, electrical tape, sound // 2008

Home Mind Theater System, an itoti* pseudo-product, is a 16:9 experience of void space from which order emerges from chaos. This is a product for the consumer who prefers to project his or her own content on to the screen.

The void between the wall and the canvas has been exagerated by speakers separating canvas from wall. The speakers fill the void with reverberating static sound -- auditory chaos. This piece is for open eye meditation; designed to be viewed up close, the viewer sits on the floor. Since the viewer's field of vision is entirely filled with the black gessoed canvas, after a short period of time the viewer experiences retinal fatigue which results in non-ordinary, intra-ocular optical phenomena that subsequently give way to subjective mental phenomena, projecting order into a seemingly chaotic visual field, form into the void.

*itoti: transporting you from the digital age to the astral age. For thousands of years the techniques for tapping in to the hidden aspects of mind and the non ordinary dimensions of reality were reserved for mystics, romantic poets, esoterics, alchemists, and royalty. But itoti, a quasi-company with pseudo-products, is changing that, offering consumers of electronics a new set of products which simulate these techniques! itoti is an acronym of "interface technology of the imagination."
